One of the most common areas of concern for managers in our current labour law climate is how to handle issues of discipline in the workplace. The discipline of staff is not only important for motivation of the entire workforce but, under our current labour legislation, is also crucial to avoid a visit to the CCMA or Labour Court. ‘Workplace Discipline’ offers managers a practical, hands-on course on how to handle disciplinary issues in the workplace.

Unit 5: Formal Discipline

The disciplinary inquiry:

  • substantive fairness – the reason for the inquiry
  • procedural fairness – the basic steps that are required for both the complainant and the chairman of the inquiry
